We, the People of Gush Katif
Synopsis
20 years after the Disengagement from the Gaza Strip, the film reveals rare archival footage of Gush Katif families in intimate home conversations, captured just after their displacement. These raw, personal videos show moments of heartbreak, unfolding in their living rooms and around Shabbat tables.
Now, two decades later, director Ayelet Heller revisits these families to ask: What remains of the wound? How does the Disengagement truly feel like in 2025? The film reveals their private and communal pain, alongside strength, hope, and cherished memories, powerfully resonating with our present reality. This fascinating encounter between the filmmaker and the interviewees also represents a profound meeting of two different Israeli perspectives, fostering complexity, inclusion, and compassion.
