The Fifth Heaven
Synopsis
1944. Palestine is under the British Mandate.
Maya (13) arrives at a remote orphanage. Her mother has left for America without a trace and her father has remarried. At the orphanage, Maya meets Dr. Markowski, an old family friend who seems baffled by her appearance. During her time at the orphanage Maya unravels the secret in her life and falls in love with Duce (25), the fiancé of an orphanage worker and a member of an anti-British terrorist faction. In a world in which ideals have gone bankrupt, the residents of the orphanage await the end of the Second World War and hope to be liberated from their personal and national isolation. This is the story of the beginnings of Israeli society.
