Yahavim Project

Synopsis

The ‘Yahavim’ project was established by the Sapir College School of Audio and Visual Arts to honor the memory of filmmaker Yahav Winner, who was murdered in the October 7th massacre while protecting his family. Yahav was a devoted father to a one-month-old baby.

The project showcases student films that grapple with themes of identity, struggle, and human resilience, continuing Yahav’s cinematic legacy of truth and artistic courage.

The students were mentored by Yahav’s widow, the filmmaker Shaylee Atary, who accompanied the films from the scriptwriting stage through to final editing.

The Films:

Falling Up (Dir. Amit Lellouche, 16 min.)

On the final day of his state-funded stay, an evacuee from a southern border town fights desperately to stay in a luxury hotel, turning his plea into a struggle for identity and belonging.

Buba (Dir. Tal Gold, 20 min.)

After discovering two of her children are trapped in their home during a terror attack, a single mother sets out alone on a desperate rescue mission.

A Fun Day in The Otef (Dir. Savion Sasson, 17 min.)

A father and son travel into the Gaza envelope during wartime to retrieve left-behind clothing, forcing their personal conflicts into the open alongside the surrounding war.

The Long Shadow (Dir. Roey Adereth,  16 min.)

Fleeing a mysterious pursuer through Tel Aviv on a wartime night, a young man confronts his broken relationships and deep disconnection before facing an inevitable choice at dawn.
