Pressed (Ha’Tzvi)
Synopsis
In 19th century Jerusalem, Fruma, a young Russian idealist, arrives in the Holy Land with her family but yearns to return to her lover in Odessa and join the fight for the working class. Her escape plans are derailed when her parents, suspicious of her intentions, send her to work at the Hebrew newspaper of visionary Eliezer Ben Yehuda.
Initially cynical, Fruma is unexpectedly drawn to Eliezer and his mission to revive the Hebrew language. As their connection deepens, she grapples with the unintended consequences of her idealism and the harsh realities faced by others. Inspired by real-life stories from “HaTzvi” newspaper, this period drama explores the complexities of identity, love, and the clash between tradition and progress in a city on the brink of change.
