La’Isha – The Story of a Women’s Magazine
Synopsis
Since 1947, “La’Isha” has reigned as Israel’s most successful women’s weekly. This documentary examines the complex relationship between the magazine and its readers over the decades. Moving from its early eras—dominated by male editors and the Miss Israel pageant—to its pivotal role in thrusting taboo women’s issues into the public spotlight, “La’Isha” constantly walked a tightrope. Through interviews with legendary figures, intimate readers’ letters, and rare archival footage, the film exposes the friction between commercial demands and social progress, capturing a shared cultural sanctuary that ultimately shaped the evolving status and identity of women in Israel.
